Motion of the Heavens.......Star Trails. On a clear night, when you look up at the stars over the course of a few hours it appears that the stars and planets are moving across the sky. In reality they stay in the same place and we are moving. The Earth rotates on its axis which is conveniently pointing directly at Polaris, the North Star. When you point your camera at Polaris, take a series of long exposures and put them together, the rotation of the Earth is revealed.
